Bárbara Porcario is a distinguished attorney with extensive experience in Industrial and Intellectual Property. She graduated from the Universidad del Salvador and holds a Master’s degree in Corporate Law from Universidad Austral in Argentina.She is also a registered Industrial Property Agent. Bárbara has led the Trademark Department in renowned law firms, providing counsel to local and international clients for over 17 years.

In line with her commitment to continuous education, Bárbara completed a Paralegal Certificate Program at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., as well as postgraduate studies in Copyright and Related Rights, and in Data Governance, Data Compliance, Information Security, and Cybersecurity at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.

In recognition of her contributions, Bárbara received the IP STARS “Rising Star” award in 2019 and was named a “Highly Recommended Lawyer in Trademark Proceedings” in 2020.

Bárbara is a member of ASIPI, INTA, and APRAM. Within INTA, she serves as Chair of the Emerging Issues Committee. Previously, she was Vice-Chair of the same committee, during which time two White Papers on the Metaverse and NFTs were published in collaboration with various INTA subcommittees. She also contributed to the approval of INTA’s Board Resolution on Intellectual Property Rights in New Digital Ecosystems. Before this, she chaired the Climate Change Subcommittee and co-authored an article on the application of blockchain technology to trademark protection.

She has represented INTA in promoting its White Papers at several events, including the EUIPO Regional IP Seminar in Vienna, Universidad Externado de Colombia, and the Role and Challenges of Intellectual Property in the Context of the Third Industrial Revolution Conference at the Mexican Bar Association.

In 2024, Bárbara participated in the “The Business of Artificial Intelligence” conference, moderating the session “The Regulatory Landscape: Legislating AI.” She was also invited by INTA to serve as a judge for the oral rounds of the Latin American Moot Court on Intellectual Property and, as Jury Chair, announced the winners of the competition organized by INTA, the Andean Community Court of Justice (TJCA), and ASIPI.

Bárbara has also delivered lectures and presentations at leading organizations and educational institutions.
In 2024, she was invited by Universidad Austral to serve as a juror and evaluate the Master’s thesis in Business Law presented by María Laura Andía Messina, titled “Holding Shareholders’ Meetings in the Metaverse: New Challenges for Argentine Corporate Law.” She also taught a class in the Diploma Program on Cannabis Extension Studies, “Structural Aspects for the Development of Cannabis in Argentina and the Region: Legal, Social, and Environmental Dimensions,” organized by Universidad Nacional de San Luis and the Association of Users and Professionals for Addressing Cannabis and Other Drugs (AUPAC – Rosario). In this class, she discussed the relationship between cannabis and industrial property rights.

Her work has been described by WTR as demonstrating “deep knowledge and a meticulous approach to IP matters, continually refining her expertise in emerging issues such as climate change and artificial intelligence.”

Bárbara Porcario co-founded Achával Porcario San Juan in 2021, a law firm recognized for its expertise in Intellectual Property and Biotechnology. Staying true to her vision and long-term objectives, Bárbara and Melisa have now evolved the firm into PORCARIO SAN JUAN Legal Ruptive, reflecting their commitment to innovation and excellence. This new chapter allows Bárbara to continue leading a practice aligned with her goals, delivering exceptional legal services while expanding into emerging areas like artificial intelligence, climate change, and cutting-edge technologies.
